Boris Godunov is a tragic play written by Alexander Pushkin in 1825 and published in 1831. This drama, which is part of Russian history, is magnificently illustrated and decorated by Boris Zworykine whose style reinforces the power of the text.
The artist, born in Moscow, created murals in the churches of the imperial village of Tsarskoe Zelo (today Pushkin City) near Saint Petersburg, before immigrating to Paris in 1921. He then decorated the Orthodox Church of Christ the Savior in Asnières-sur-Seine.
His style, close to Russian Orthodox icons, is built with strong and precise lines with bright colors. It is a wonder for the eyes.
He also created with H. Piazza the magnificent book of the Golden Cockerel, entirely illustrated with lithographs.
